PET/CT

POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY WITH COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY

Positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) are diagnostic examinations that use radiation to create a real-time image of the body. A PET/CT scan allows doctors to evaluate a variety of diseases anywhere in the body, including the heart and brain. PET/CT scans are most commonly used to detect cancer and examine the effects of cancer therapy on the body. Oral or injected dye may be used to create a contrasted image.

MRI

MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING

Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses a strong magnet and radio waves to provide detailed diagnostic images of internal body organs and tissues. It is commonly used for detection of body structures and tissue changes that may not be visible with other diagnostic imaging methods. Sometimes, a dye may be injected for a contrasted image to help diagnose. MRI is an advanced magnetic resonance imaging. These state-of-the-art scanners allow for faster, more accurate imaging, compared to conventional MRI.

CT

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY

Computed Tomography, also called CT, uses x-rays and computer technology to produce images. A CT scan shows greater detail than x-ray and can image tissue, blood vessels and more. Contrast or dye may be used for higher contrast imaging studies.

ULTRASOUND

ULTRASOUND IMAGING (SONOGRAPHY)

Ultrasound imaging—sonography—is a noninvasive procedure that uses sound waves to create real-time images of the human body. Technicians use a small ultrasound probe to detect soundwaves, which are reflected to a computer to create an image. Ultrasound is commonly used for pregnancy, the abdomen, veins and pelvis. An ultrasound can also help radiologists guide needle for biopsies and catheter procedures.

3D MAMMOGRAPHY

BREAST TOMOSYNTHESIS

Mammography examines the breast with x-rays. It is considered the most effective tool for early breast tumor detection because it shows changes in the breast before a patient or physician can feel them. A 3D mammogram (breast tomosynthesis) combines multiple breast X-rays to create a three-dimensional picture of the breast, which may improve breast cancer detection over traditional mammography, especially in dense breast tissue. Annual mammograms are recommended for women beginning at 40.

DEXA

BONE MINERAL DENSITOMETRY

Bone mineral densitometry is a procedure to measure bone loss, or bone mineral density. It is most commonly used to accurately detect osteoporosis, typically in the lower spine and hips. This test can also assess fracture risk and used to track the effects of osteoporosis treatment.

X-RAY

X-Ray uses electromagnetic radiation to create an image of the body, including bone structure and internal organs. Typically, x-rays are used to detect broken bones. However, x-rays can also be used to detect conditions like pneumonia. Mammograms can also be used in conjunction with x-rays to detect breast cancer.

WELLNESS IMAGING

Premier Radiology offers a range of wellness studies and screening tests to help patients live a healthy and active lifestyle. Through preventative screening, radiologists can detect problems and disease processes at earlier stages before symptoms begin, allowing treatment to begin sooner. Premier Radiology offers comprehensive wellness studies, including cardiac testing, lung cancer screening and more. Learn more about our wellness imaging studies.

CALCIUM SCORING CT

Calcium scoring is a screening exam to determine if a patient has coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD is the leading cause of death for American women and men. Calcium scoring measures calcium build-up in the arteries, which effects blood flow throughout the body.

LOW-DOSE LUNG SCREEN

A low-dose CT lung screen is a lung cancer screening for high-risk patients. This study uses computed tomography (CT) technology to produce high-quality images of the lungs with a low dose of radiation.
